One of the things I always have to go back to in the BB is that chapter There Is A Solution. In it I find that what Dr. Carl Jung told that young man is what saved him. It changed his life and he got sober and never drank alcohol again. He had that spiritual experience, which in one way or another we all need.<\/p>\n
Whether I think of it as a spiritual awakening or experience it doesn’t matter. Mine I know occurred in my life, when I prayed and totally surrendered. The alcohol was removed and has never really come back. At that time I knew nothing about alcoholism or this program. All I knew was that I could not stop drinking and almost took my own life to stop it. However a friend of mine gave me hope and that relieved me of the pain of despair and allowed me to ask the God of my understanding for help and I got it.<\/p>\n
What I always saw in that chapter in that young man was myself. When he goes back to Dr. Jung, after he had gone back out and drank again, Jung spoke to him and said that he had the mind of a chronic alcoholic. And those words hit me deeply within and I knew that was me. He told him there was no hope for men like that. And that was again the way I was until that young man told me that there was a place where men and women met and stayed sober together. That’s what gave me hope.<\/p>\n
And yet it’s funny, when I think about it. There was no program like what I was introduced to, when that young man was seeking a solution to his alcoholism. He was either going to find a spiritual experience or die an alcoholic death. And when he found it, he came back to the United States and joined the Oxford Movement. In time he rescued his friend Ebby T. and introduced him to the Movement and Ebby went on and introduced Bill W. to what he learned from his friend, who had gone to Dr. Carl Jung and found the experience he needed. And Bill went onto Dr. Bob and we all were given this program.<\/p>\n
If I’m right, I think Bill wrote Dr. Jung before he died and told him what had happened to the young man. He told him that he never drank alcohol again and died sober. In a sense he gave Dr. Jung some of the credit for this program. A spiritual program, which in one way or another gives us the spiritual grace, the experience or awakening, which helps us all stay sober one day at a time.<\/p>\n
Anyway this was a day for me, which totally reminds me of why I am here. Our group’s monthly anniversary celebration. I got sober this month and it always reminds me of why I am here. And yet the truth is that each and everyday I stay sober does the reminding for me. That’s what I learned in here. To remember everyday why I am here.
