What a refreshing day. The subject of our meeting today was actually what got almost everyone called on to share. Step One. And I think that the reason was so obvious. It definitely reminded us all of why we are here.<\/p>\n
And I was once again reminded of what it is that truly starts my day in here, each and everyday. That thought, if not up front, is the background of how my day starts. I can never ever forget how that Step came up for me. I didn’t even know anything about alcoholism or AA, back then. But my prayer to the God of my understanding was such a surrender. Like I learned, when I got here, that the surrender had to be totally perfect. And it was for me.<\/p>\n
I mean, here I was, ready to commit suicide, because I could go no further with drinking alcohol, but couldn’t stop. Alcohol owned me. And I was about to go out and end my life, when someone stopped me and gave me hope. That hope led me to the moment that night, when I begged God to stop me from drinking and I would do anything asked of me. I also was willing to give up the life I had been leading. I just never ever wanted to drink again. <\/p>\n
And it worked for me. I awoke the next day and the thought and desire for a drink was gone. A friend of mine in here, when he heard what happened for me, said that I had a spiritual awakening before I walked through these doors in here. Amazing.<\/p>\n
Anyway, that’s just part of what inspires me each and everyday. Like I was told, it’s what gets me to focus on staying sober a day at a time. And it makes me grateful for all I have been given, as a result of my getting sober and staying in here. The amazing changes in my life. A spiritual way of life. That gift of this program to people like myself. I need to thank my Higher Power, this program, my old sponsor, those old timers, and all those who have so freely given to me in this program.
