Today someone brought up a very important subject at our meeting. The Fifth Tradition.<\/p>\n
Once again I’m always troubled, when members bring up subjects like their own personal problems. This isn’t the way I learned about this program, when I was starting to grow in sobriety. We were always involved in meetings about the program itself. The idea of personal problems was never brought up. They were to be addressed outside of meetings with sponsors or other older sober members. Or with professionals. <\/p>\n
The Fifth Tradition talks about the Twelfth Step in groups. About the suffering alcoholic. Which could be a new person, or even an old member. After all the BB tells us, as did my sponsor or old timers that we’re still human and not saints. So even old timers can get caught up in getting into trouble with staying sober and need help to get back on track in this program. Seen it happen before. And often pride can get in the way. <\/p>\n
Besides the long form of this Tradition tells us the group needs to be a spiritual entity, whose primary purpose is the carry the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
\nAnd like I said, it could be a new person or an old timer, who is troubled. Like I was told that I can find myself stumbling over my old defects. And I need to be brought back into what this program is about. And it’s about staying sober each and every day.<\/p>\n
So, I need to be reminded of why I am here to start with. Staying sober a day at a time. To depend on this program and what it teaches me, plus learning to rely on my Higher Power. Growing along spiritual lines. <\/p>\n
The stumbling I will face from time to time will probably last until the end of my life. Like I was told I am still human and not a saint. The BB tells me that, as did my old sponsor and those old timers. I need to continue to learn what I need to do to stay sober in here. I never ever want to drink again. So I need to give and get help. Freely given and freely giving. That’s this program. <\/p>\n
Anyway I listened and again learned today why we are here. Makes me grateful. Hope we stick with doing what we need to do to stay sober a day at a time. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
