Valuable gifts

One of the great gifts in this program are those around us. Over time in here I have been privileged to having been given friendships. Not only that, even when they move away, or I do, we still stay in touch with one another.

I was thinking of this today, after I made a few long distance calls to old friends and shared their lives with me and me with them. Not just the individual problems or humors, we also shared valuable information about others, which helped me. We were talking also about staying sober.

Overtime we have had family members come into the program and they too are part of these friendships today. In fact I traveled to another state for part of this program and ran into a few of their family members, who were there for the same purpose. Amazing. We had much we were able to share with one another. Both in person and then they shared with their family members I was talking to today.

This I also realize is exactly what much of this program is about that I learned in here. Hope, faith, and love. Which are amazing gifts to someone like me, who was so empty, when I came into this program. I was owned by alcohol, which had emptied me of anything
worthwhile. And it took time in the program for me to change and reverse the spiritual emptiness within. I am grateful for all that I have been given in here.

In fact, while I was sitting here and thinking about all of this, I got a call from a man I sponsored and have known over time in this program, who lives out of state. And we talked about a lot of what I was thinking about, as did he.

I was once again reminded of my purpose to stay sober a day at a time. But also was reminded of what a friend of mine in this program told me they were reminded of. The thing which I told them that my old sponsor told me, which changed my thinking. And it was the thing which actually changed them and got them sober. And that was that I was not responsible for getting sober or coming into this program. But I was responsible for staying sober and putting this program into action. And they moved to Florida and still stay in touch and stay sober.

Anyway I was thinking of the gifts of hope, faith, and love I have been given and am so grateful.
