This was one of those days which was a great one because of the new man, who was attending his first meeting. He told us that he had stopped drinking alcohol back a ways, but felt he needed to get in touch with AA members and come to know what it is all about.
As a result of this, the members decided to talk about the first Three Steps. And that’s what we did. Sounded very helpful. In fact after the meeting a few of us were able to talk to this new possible member.
I know it was a very encouraging meeting for me. Not that I thought we should be talking about Three Steps. For myself I felt we should talk only about the First Step and introducing the young man to the doorway into this program.
When they called on me near the end of the meeting, I kept my thoughts down to how it was for me to enter this program way back. And I did mention the First Step and my thoughts back then. But I also told him what my old sponsor told me. He said that I didn’t know that I didn’t know. I only thought I did. And that was a wake up call for me. I have never let go of that thought. I remind myself and others about that.
Anyway I was grateful for the introduction of this young man and the people who spoke to him. And it once again made me grateful to my Higher Power and all those who have helped me along the way. I need to say thanks.
