Getting and staying sober

Today we had a meeting of sober alcoholics, who all spoke about how we stayed sober and changed our way of living and thinking. Especially how the Second Step, opening up a spiritual way of life, and learning to have a relationship with a Higher Power.

Most of us were able to relate how we were able to get sober and to begin to change, which took all of us a long long time to begin to have a new relationship with ourselves and others in this program, as well as our Higher Power. I knew myself how rough and tough this was from the very beginning. I always go back and remember how my old sponsor and others were able to help me to grow in reasonable thinking, stopping the negative emotions from running my way of life. All this took the Twelve Steps, as well as how I developed this spiritual way of life, which helped me along the way to grow in faith, hope, and love.

I heard a lot of others talk about this way of growing and changing. It was very helpful to hear them talk about, not just the Steps, but their growing along spiritual lines also. It made me grateful to not only hear this way of life, but to benefit from their speaking about the way they are all growing up in this sober way of life. Made me thankful for all their thoughts and experiences. I know it renewed my gratitude to my Higher Power, and all those old timers, who helped me to stay sober and change my way of living.
