Today our group opened up the meeting on a “large” request: the first Three Steps. And it became a pretty open meeting, which I think was to cover a young man, who probably wanted to hear about this. But I don’t think he really took well to what he was hearing.
I know that there were a number of individuals in this meeting, who talked pretty much about the same things. I know I did. I could hear and see what was really being identified with. The changes we underwent as a result of putting these Steps into action in our lives. I know that in my own case, as well as a number of others we went through the same things as a very large result as a great positive change in us.
Almost everyone of us, who were identifying with each other in the changes we underwent in our lives…our sobriety. Like I said, it was very amazing. In fact, after the meeting, a fairly young man, who had good time in here, came up and spoke to me after the meeting, and we both could identify with our own programs and how they worked for us, like others in the room today.
I think that was what I found I and others were most grateful for. That our own descriptions of the changes we went through in our times in here were so similar in almost every form. We had learned to grow through our sponsors in here, who had made the same changes most of us found in the Big Book.
Anyway I felt so grateful for the gift so many of us were able to give to a lot of others in here, who seemed to react to our thoughts and experiences. That made me most grateful to my Higher Power. And it did the same for those who seemed to be united with the rest of us. Totally responding to the First Three Steps. Totally turning our lives over to the first part of the First Step, and having to continue over time to go back on and off in the second part of that First Step. Then the surrender to the spiritual side of the Second Step, and growing in relationship with the God of our under-standing, and continuing to do this through our one day at a time in here.
Then having that Third Step open the door to the rest of these Steps.
Makes me grateful, as it did so many others.
