The meeting today was most helpful for a few “new” members. These were alcoholics, who had been in this program for a year or less. But they were those, who had their own ideas, for the most part, of what being sober means.
One of the gifts today were a number of “old timers”. Those, who had grown in this program over quite a long period and had their own way of having learned how to stay sober a day at a time. I know that I was one of those. And I knew the others, who, like myself, had learned from their own old timers, who had learned like I did, what we need to do, to stay sober a day at a time. To put the Steps and the spiritual life together, and to grow living a sober way of life, while continually learning how to live this spiritual life we all need.
I know that I was able to speak to a few “new” young alcoholics after for a moment, and they seemed to be friendly and open. I also knew of a couple, who seemed to be resentful. Or so it seemed. I wanted to hope this wasn’t so. Time will tell, because there were enough there, whom I had never seen before, nor did others. Hopefully they will acquire sponsors, who are able to help them to remain sober, like we did.
Anyway a few old timers and I had quite a bit to talk about, which told me how we had grown along in this program and our spiritual way of life. Made me grateful, as I know it did them also.
