Spiritual

A long time friend of mine remided me today about something that is basic to our staying sober. That thought was about something Sandy B. often talks about. Being undisturbed.

The thing he said was that, when we are disturbed, that’s a state of being nonspiritual. Being undisturbed is spiritual. Of course he is talking about the solution to this state of being, which is the Tenth Step. Which states in the 12&12 the spiritual axiom: that every time we are disturbed, there is something wrong with us. Our task is to get undisturbed.

The Tenth Step tells us how we are to accomplish this. My sponsor would always remind me of this. Of course, early on and for some time afterward, I would deny this and point to others as being the cause of my disturbance. However, as time went on and sobriety began to sink in, because I had a spiritual awakening, I came to realize just how right he was.

If I want peace of mind and serenity, especially right now with this season that is upon us, I will definitely want to practice this Tenth Step and all the other principles the Twelve Steps have to offer me. As a result of doing this, the hope that I was once given, when I came here, will be there once again. The faith and trust I found in the Second Step will return. And the new happiness and freedom promised in the Ninth will come into being.
Sanity will be restored. Moreover, I will find myself living and thinking as I should; sober.

Anyway, I was thinking about this today. I even brought it up in our meeting this noon.
