The reconciliation of opposites. Someone said it was the essence of life. In other words, we’re in the perfect program. Why? Because the program is full of this. It’s full of paradoxes. One author said that a paradox is truth standing on its head looking for attention.
We say in this program that we have to give it away in order to keep it. That’s the paradox. Opposites reconciled or brought together. A truth standing on its head.
The program is full of such things. We have to die in order to live. We end up dying to our old selves and begin to live a new life. We have to suffer in order to get well. We have to depend on a power greater than ourselves in order to gain independence. We have to surrender in order to win. All opposites telling the truth. Truths we must learn in order to survive a fatal disease.
Truth is the basis of all humility. The truth about this program we live and the truth about ourselves. Telling the truth about ourselves is a painful process. It’s often humiliating. But the humiliation brings humility. And humility heals the pain.
We’re told, when we come in, to stop thinking. Then we look up on the wall and see the slogan “Think, Think, Think”.
What are they talking about? How can I not think and then see that we have to think? Everything we learn seems to be the opposite of what it appears to be. It’s seems to be a world turned upside down or standing on its head.
And yet, after all of this, the program is not as complicated as it appears. It’s a simple program. Anyone can get it. All it requires is honesty, openmindedness, and willingness. I don’t have to unerstand what a paradox means. I just have to learn to accept it.
All these were new ideas to me. But first I had to get rid of all the old ideas to get them. I had a head full of these old things and there was no room for anything new. First I had to stop thinking in order to start thinking about anything new.
Anyway, I was thinking about these things this morning. It’s another day to welcome sobriety into my life again.
