About these steps

Had to think about the steps today. When going to meetings and finding that there was a lot of talk, but no mention of what got us sober and what keeps us sober, it really makes me think. Some spoke about feelings, golf, and one spoke at length about some other program, which would help in spiritual growth. But only two people mentioned the steps as the way to get sober and change.

Let’s see, “Having had a spiritual awakening as the results of these steps…”. Yep,that’s still the formula. Hasn’t changed. How fortunate we are that the steps were there for us and helped so many millions of alcoholics our of their misery and freed them from the bondage of alcohol.

I am so grateful for having found this program as it was presented to me when I came in. I was thinking about this today, when one of the subjects was the Serenity Prayer, but no mention of the steps. Sounded like they were trying to figure things out for themselves. I think of the Sixth and Seven Steps every time I hear this prayer brought up. After all, it’s my defects of character, which are the villains in my life. If I’m having problems, this is where it begins and, with God’s help, where it ends each time I have to face them.

I was thinking that every time I have an opportunity to speak up at a meeting will I bring the steps into the mix and how these steps, when applied to my life, will provide me with the opportunity to move forward in growing along spiritual lines and staying sober? I think I do and I think I will continue to do so and express my gratitude, when I do.
