Right now

A lot of good thinking today. We actually talked about our being able to stay in the now. Our being able to stay sober a day at a time. Not only that, but also the Second Step. A great meeting for all of us.

Being able to do what my old sponsor told me to do, as well as the old timers back then, to not go forward, but to remain sober a day at a time. Not to drift into the future. He would often ask me where my feet were, and I’d say, “Right here.” And he would tell me not to go any further this day. Not to project, as he would always point out.

Over time in here, I have learned to do just that. To begin my day by putting the Second Step into action. To start my day with prayer and offering myself up to do God’s will for me, as I understand it. And to go to meetings and offer my sober thoughts and listen to others doing the same thing.

Then I had to learn how to be grateful for this way of life…staying sober a day at a time and practicing a spiritual way of life. But also remembering that we are not saints, but human alcoholics, who from time to time will have our minds wander and ourselves stumble. And then getting help from our Higher Power and others like ourselves.

Anyway, I had to go out after the meeting and talk to an old friend of mine in here about this staying sober a day at a time and being able to practice a spiritual way of life, as in the Second Step. We were very grateful for the meeting and what we had been offered this day.
