Learning to stay sober

One of those things we all need to keep is what I, and many others were told by my old sponsor’s widow, that we had to be able to stay focused on who we were.
Of course that was that we had to be primarily faced with the first thing we all needed to do. We had to be able to see ourselves as the primary purpose of our staying sober.

I learned from her, as did many others, that we had to focus on this early on in each and everyday. I have to be able to come to know that without this thought, we can help others, but then end up our drinking again and possibly dying, as so many others have, who forget their need to stay focused on this.

I have seen this happen too many times already, and know how important she was, when she told me and others that this has to be a primary thought, each and everyday. And then we can step into this program and become part of it. We need to make sure we are part of AA, willing to share, and receive this program in our lives on a regular basis. Daily, if we can, but definitely to be an active part of this.

Of course it is obvious to this alcoholic, as the BB, and other members have told us that we are not saints, but human alcoholics. So, I know for myself, that I have to not only put these 12 Steps into action, but also to focus on the spiritual life, which my old sponsor helped me to focus on. To work this program on a regular basis, and to support this way of life with a Higher Power and spiritual way of life…each and everyday. And to be grateful to my Higher Power, and all those who have helped me to do this. And like we are told that we can grow, but, like they pointed out to us, we can bumble, and stumble, tumble, as human alcoholics until the day we die. I need to learn to pick myself up, dust myself off, and talk to others like myself, as well as my Higher Power.
