New

A friend of mine has a slogan or motto “new beginnings”. Good thought for a lot of reasons. After all, when we come into this program, it’s just that isn’t it? For all of us it’s a new beginning. Having left the old behind, we start anew in life. As Bill said, we’re reborn.

But it doesn’t stop there. Every step we take is a new beginning. A step closer to what we all seek. Each step brings us closer to the spiritual solution. Closer to that conscious contact with God as we understand him. A step closer to the spiritual awakening, which is what we all seek. The answer to our alcohol problem. Not only a new beginning, but a revolution in our personalities. We’re changed. Renewed.

Everyday is a new beginning. Everyday we have a chance to start over. An opportunity to renew our commitment to our sobriety. Renewing ourselves through prayer and meditation. Renew our chance to seek our higher power and once again place ourselves under his care. To renew our dependence, which insures our independence.

And during each day, events may bring us to a bad place within. We can lose our way and everytime we pause to say a quick prayer and gather ourselves, we have a chance for another new beginning. We can start our day over with a new attitude. I know, because there often seem to be moments, when I have to do that.

I was thinking about this today. I was thinking about sobriety and my friend gave me a new way to meditate on it.
