Steps

Got another treat today. The subject was all 12 Steps. I heard a lot of good things.

A lot of people talked about the BB and the need for sponsors. One woman told how her lack of sponsor or knowing what to do led her back out into the barroom. She said, when she got back the first things was to get a sponsor and to learn how to stop arguing and follow the guidance of someone else.

Most people talked about the difficulties they had in working these Steps, but they balanced that with the outcome. The benefits they received. Not just the freedom from alcohol, but also the change we all go through in our lives. The change in personality. The learning to face responsibilities. The care and helping other alcoholics get sober. The lessening of our egos and our pride. Getting some humility in our lives. And the admission of the need of a God of our understanding.

All in all, it was an uplifting meeting, which I think, filled all of us with gratitude. I know it was for me.

  1. It is so unforturnate that many in the rooms give lip service to working the steps formally with a sponsor. Untill I accepted the fact that is in my best interest and the best interest of society at large nothing changed. Some expect miracles in their time as I once did, a pyscic change is promised, when is a matter of faith. I always left before the miracle happened…..not anymore! I am free. Stick around ya’ll and trust the process please. JR
