Today we talked about the tenth step. I listened to what each person had to say and had the feeling I was just beginning to learn from their experiences with this step. A great deal of humility was being expressed.
I came home and sat here and thought about what I had heard and went to the 12&12 and reread the opening lines to this step. I thought back at some of the stories being related today and realized that the examples given were illustrations of this step in action. I was hearing what the book said about this step. I was hearing people putting this way of life into action.
I now know I was witnessing a group expressing what can only be described as what it means to live a sober life. They were telling all of us how to maintain our spiritual condition. To me it was the perfect definition of the daily reprieve from our disease of alcoholism; the solution to our problem of drinking.
“For by this time sanity will have returned.” My thoughts went back to my entrance into this program and the second step. How grateful I am for the opportunity which was given to me by all those old timers, who were here, and my Higher Power.
Just thinking about sobriety.
