It’s so simple isn’t it? No matter how far afield we go in our meetings, it all boils down to one thing. The reason we’re sitting in those rooms, why we came to this program, is that it’s about alcohol, our not drinking alcohol, the solution we find here, and carrying this message to others.
How easy it is for all of us to think it’s something else. Not enough money, problems in relationships, problems on the job, legal entanglements, children, and on and on. Sometimes we tend to talk about our feelings and emotions. We can slip from the thought of the desperation which drove so many of us here to a group therapy session. But the hard fact is that this is about not drinking and getting and staying sober.
What I have found is that no matter what is going on in my life that, if I remember what my primary purpose is, if I will work the steps into my life on a daily basis, if I go to meetings and sit with those who have the same problem, whatever seems to be wrong in my life is eventually solved. My dependence on a power greater than myself is the beginning of the solution to not only my drinking problem but all the problems I have faced and will face in my life.
When I say all of this, I’m know I’m talking about a spiritual way of life. The key to all of this is not drinking and being willing to give what I have found here away to others. It’s the way to self forgetting and thinking about those about us, who are suffering in one way or another. It’s a way which asks us to just do the footwork and leaving the results to our Higher Power. It’s a way to peace and serenity. All I have to do is to not drink a day at a time and commit myself to this simple program.
I was thinking about this today.
