One of those subjects, which we can often talk about, especially when we have someone new around, is the First Step. I know that when this is the subject at meetings, almost everyone is going to go into details of what it was that broke them down and made them go and surrender.
Today we read the First Step from the 12&12. Everyone was focused on the reading, and afterwards, while it was going around the room, nearly all spoke in depth at what they had to go through, which made them totally give up.
All of this reminded me of something an old friend of mine has said in the past, i.e. we’re here because we’re not all there. One other friend of mine reminded me of that just recently. But I know we would all agree to that, especially after listening to what was said today.
I know that I was saved from death, when a drinking friend of mine came and told me about something I had never heard of before. And that was AA. Here I was in total despair and on my way to commit suicide, when he was brought in and told me. It gave me hope, and that hope got me to totally surrender to the God of my understanding. I was desperate to never drink again, and this is what worked.
Anyway, it was a very good meeting for all of us. It also got my mind where it needed to be, staying sober a day at a time and relying on my Higher Power, and everyone I have ever known, who have helped me. Makes me dedicated to trying to live a very spiritual way of life and being grateful for all I have received in here.
