The two subjects of today’s meeting were the first two Steps. And these were both brought into discussion by two old timers, who knew they would be helpful for all, but also that there seemed to be those who needed to hear them.
These subjects did get some of the older members to get them into good discussions for the most part. How much the surrender of people like us, in the First Step, opened the door to the rest of this program. And how the Second Step changed our lives by how we were helped to do what was necessary to begin to practice spirituality, as well as doing what we needed to do to begin to grow to know our Higher Power.
Many of the newer members passed, when they were called on. But I know why they did, because I was able to talk to a couple of them after the meeting, and they described what they needed to hear and how it helped them. I know that most of those who talked did probably open a lot of them, because they were very clear in what they said. It was very encouraging, to hear them.
However, these two subjects, plus the Third Step, which some brought in, were obviously very important to most everyone in the room…as they are to the entire program. I know how helpful this meeting was for me. A great reminder to this alcoholic, and all those I know.
In fact it was most encouraging to almost everyone I knew, who were open and sharing. Brought a lot of memories back. I spoke to the group leader afterwards and he was most helpful. We both agreed with what we heard, which was also helpful to our staying sober a day at a time.
Anyway, I love hearing these things in meetings, which encourage me. It was a great reminder to me of how much I owe to my Higher Power, and all those old timers I remember, including my old sponsor. I owe so much gratitude to all. I know I need to be able to care and love so many, and to practice the humility I have learned in here. I have to say “Thank you” over and over each and everyday.
