Easy

Easy does it. That’s what was on the wall, among others, when I came in. I was glad that was up there, because I really didn’t want to do much. Easy does it gave me the perfect excuse not to do anything. At least that’s what I thought. Then my sponsor repeated that saying to me, but had something to say about it. He said, “Easy does it, but do it!”

That kind of thing was always happening. Easy does it, but do it! He was teaching me, from the very start that there was something I should be doing. What was it? I was to learn from him that from the jump that I couldn’t rest on my laurels. That every day was a day when I needed to be working on maintaining my spiritual condition. My very life depended on doing that.

From the very beginning he was trying to show me the fatal nature of this disease. I was faced with the choice we all are presented with when we come here. To either choose to live a spiritual way of life or to die an acloholic death. Easy does it, but do it.

I believe that for me to drink is to die. I’m going to die anyway, but I sure don’t want to die an alcoholic death. Besides I’ve learned what a great way to live, this program has offered to me. I can’t help but be greateful to the God of my understanding and the program and the people in it for having provided me with a wonderful life. AA has been the best thing that ever happened to me.

So, I was thinking of Easy Does It. Today I think I’ll try to live that way, but with the caveat,
Do It!
