In a conversation today the subject of attitudes came up. What’s my attitude on life? Today it’s positive. Back, when I came into the program, it was negative. It had been that way for years, when I was drinking. But the program changed all of that.
An old timer in this program always talked about attitudes early on in my sobriety. He almost drove me crazy listening to him talk. He would always say, “Attitudes are everything. They’re more important than facts. It’s our attitudes, which change the facts.”
As time went on, I began to appreciate what he was saying. Then came a time, when I began to actually quote this man. Amazing! Why? Because I came to understand and experience what he was saying. Working these steps in my life began to change my attitudes. And it’s still working today.
That’s exactly what Dr. Carl Jung said to the man in the BB. He told him that the result of a spiritual experience that what drove us before would be changed. The emotions, the ideas, and attitudes would be turned around and a whole new set of ideas, motives, and attitudes would replace them. And the spiritual awakening I have experienced, as a result of applying these steps to my life bears that out.
It was just these thoughts I shared with few people today, who expressed a need to change.
Anyway, it’s time to step back and take a deep breath. I’m sober and that’s what’s important.
