Reading and growing

In the last couple of weeks I have gone to a couple of meetings, where they took turns to read from the 12&12, and then after the chapter on the Step being read, we all discussed how these Steps and what was read affected us. It reminded me of what meetings were like back years ago, when the importance of the Steps in our lives helped us to learn and grow in this program.

It was a reminder to me of why I am here. About learning to stay sober. What those old timers, back a while ago, did to help us to stay focused on what works for us in this program. Kind of like I was told, when my old sponsor, said to me, that, “I didn’t know that I didn’t know. I only thought I did.” It was the beginning of opening my mind and beginning to help me to become open to learn what it is that I needed to know and do, in order to stay sober a day at a time.

I can only hope that I will get an opportunity to continue to attend meetings, where they will read a chapter from the BB and the 12&12. I know it is one thing for me to stop and read both books, but it’s a lot different for me, reading these books by myself, and then not only reading these chapters and listening to others and their impressions and what they had learned. It not only helps me to reinforce what I have learned, but begins to open my mind to new thoughts.

And all of this helps me to listen and open my mind to growing along spiritual lines. Plus it makes me grateful to be open and sharing and receiving what I need to understand how this program and the God of my understanding continue to help me to stay sober. Never want to forget this.
