All those who help

Today was a day at the meeting, when we had a couple of drunks, who had come to get sober. Both became willing to try not to drink again and stay here. And they were not alone. There were a very few women, who also spoke and needed and wanted to stay sober.

Every time this happens, it wakes me up. Can’t help it. It’s what I learned in here from my old sponsor and all those old timers, back when I came in. I have learned from them what I needed to get. And that’s what we are supposed to do.

And that’s to do what is God’s will for us. And that’s to not only stay sober, but to help those, who need to stop drinking and to also stay sober.

Not only did those of us in here, who have been sober, reply to their need, but after the meeting was over, they were met and talked to by a lot of those attending. I found it not only helpful, but encouraging. It reminded me of what happened to me by those old timers. The compassion and caring, and the freely giving of their help to me. It taught me what I was supposed to do, to care and freely give to others in here.

Anyway, it was a very helpful moment in my life and that of others. A reminder of why we all are here. We’re here to stay sober a day at a time, and to pass all of this to those who need to also live this way of life. A spiritual answer, which we all need everyday. I know this is what my Higher Power did for me, and all those old timers, who well understood what we all need. Makes me grateful to the God of my understanding and all those who have helped people like me.
