Unity for our sobriety

The last two meetings were very interesting for all of us. They basically were on the First Step one day and the Second Step today. Most of us expressed our thoughts and actions. And the First Step day was carried on before a man returning from drinking, and the Second Step had a new woman. Very interesting and hopefully helpful.

Both these Steps were brought up to help members to focus on why we are here and not get drawn off into personal problems. Things which should be discussed with sponsors, or counselors, or even friends outside of meetings. I know like others in here we need to focus on why we are here and what we have been doing in order to grow and learn the way we should, if we want to remain sober.

And meetings are so important that we can maintain AA unity, as spelled out in our Traditions. Why we are here and what we must do, if we want to continue to stay sober a day at a time. I saw a lot of focus in these two meetings on just this part of the program. We were able to talk in such a way that there was really a kind of enthusiasm and focus on our being sober…hopefully helpful for us all.

Personally, like so many others, I was grateful for all of this. It did remind me of all those old timers I knew, when I got sober and came into this program, to whom I owe so much gratitude for what they gave me. But what is so basic to this alcoholic are thoughts I have about the gratitude I have for my Higher Power for the real miracle performed to not only stop me from drinking alcohol, but how it saved my life, and changed me from what I was to what I am today. I am so grateful.
