The road

Today I awoke and found that I was four states away from where I was yesterday. I’m down in Virginia on a retreat. Quite a change.

The theme of this retreat is from the BB, the road, the broad highway we’re all traveling along together. For me it’s absolutely amazing. How did we possibly end up on this road, when so many did not?

Talking to a friend of mine, who is a student of this program, I learned that today there are approximately a million members walking along this road. Compare that number to the many of millions of alcoholics in this country. We are the few. The fortunate.

While I was thinking about this, we who have found a spiritual solution, have stepped off the road we were once on and have chosen a different path to follow. One which has brought peace of mind and contentment, serenity, and, most of all, sanity into my life.

As I was thinking about this today, I was once again reminded of Robert Frost’s poem, The Road Not Taken. Particularly the last three lines of that poem.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

That’s the truth. It has made all the difference. I am so grateful to the God of my understanding and to so many members, who have made this possible.
