The benefit of sharing

What do we do, when one of our character defects has taken over our mind and trying to push us to the edge? That was what an old friend called to talk about this evening.

One thing was that he was talking to someone about it. Someone like myself, who has gone through what was driving him crazy. Of course we talked about what drives most of us, our egos. Our self centered thinking, which throws us right back to the 1st Step. Our being powerless and our lives unmanageable.

That took us right back to that 2nd Step. The insanity of our thinking and the need for a Power greater than ourselves to restore us. The need to stop and not act, when we’re in doubt. When in doubt don’t.

That business, where we want to work this program, but something in us is driving to take over the reigns again. And, from my experience and that of others, turns our lives into hell. The need to go to that 3rd Step and turn our lives and wills over to the care of the God of our understanding. The choices we make and our decisions are still ours. And there are consequences we have to face, if I make the wrong one.

Then we talked about doing the next right thing. Staying in the now and avoiding projection, which can cause more anxiety, fear, and unrealistic expectations. And to avoid drifting back to past experiences, which can lead to guilt and remorse and cause us misery we don’t need.

We closed our talk with both of us expressing our gratitude for being sober and in this program. The fact that we can share a problem like this and have it cut down to size by willing to open up to someone else. All this we learned in this program. That the solution to our problems are spiritual and not in our hands.
