Had someone call me and wanted to share their heavy living problems with me. Fortunately I was around when all the stuff that happened to them and their family went down.
It really is difficult to deal with people who have gone through years of suffering from what happened and their reaction to that. And then their dealings with other members whom I know are causing all the problems in my friend’s life.
However I know that the solution to what is going on is spiritual. I remember Dr. Scott Peck in his book The Road Less Traveled talking about using psychiatry and psychology and how it cannot cure or heal our problems. Then he uses the second half of his book to talk about how the healing can be found in spirituality. Just like we learn in here.
That’s pretty much all I had to offer from my own experience. I know what difficult relationships can do to us. Been there and got help from my sponsor and others, But in the end I found that Peck, the BB, and others were absolutely right about the need for a relationship with a Higher Power and trying to live a spiritual life. Perseverance, hope, faith, and finally love.
I know what drove me to find this way of life. It was my alcoholism. That was what set all my problems up that I had to eventually find a way to deal with them. I had to learn to surrender and accept a new way of life. Spiritual. If I wanted to stay sober and never drink again. If I wanted to find peace of mind. Serenity. A new freedom and a new happiness. To be restored to sanity as far as alcohol goes. To stop fighting everyone and everything including alcohol.
That’s what began to solve my problems. All I can hope is that my friend will be able to do the same. But I had to want a solution. And that began with never ever wanting to drink again. From there my Higher Power and all the people I met in here stepped in and gave me the help I needed.
