Taking time

I’ve been tempted to just sit back and not think. And that’s what stopped me. I realized that it’s what I’m not supposed to do, if I can avoid it. I know that I was told that I was here to stay sober a day at a time, And part of that is to stop and take time out and pray and meditate. To try to practice this spiritual program.

So, that’s where I am at the moment. Trying to do what I should. And one of those things is that I’m to continue to try to pray and love those I know in here. Especially if they are not well. In fact I don’t even have to personally know them. I know a couple of people, parents of friends of mine, who are in a not good state in treatment.

There are a lot of things I know I need to stop and just spend a few minutes on. One of those is to take the time to think about those I know I love. I won’t go into detail on this. A brief moment opened up the door in my mind.

I spent some time today with a good friend of mine, who stopped and treated me to lunch and some shopping. One of those reminders to me, how much some people have amazed me by their care and their love. I often can’t even think this is a fact. But then some one steps in and does something which reminds me of how much they care.

Again that reminds me of what I was told a long time ago. That I needed to grow in four things in here. The first was perseverance, then hope, the first thing I needed to practice perseverance in. Next was faith. That I needed to never let go of. And finally love. All of these are a large part of this spiritual program for me. Like the BB tells me, that it’s not a theory. I have to live it. Not always easy.

Anyway, I know I had to stop and take the time to think tonight. Trying to practice the spiritual life and persevere, as I was told. But more I need to do. And that’s to step back and exercise gratitude for all my Higher Power has given me. And to be grateful for what all those old timers, and the rest of the people in here, have done for me. Helped me to stay sober and grow along in this program. To be able to freely give what was so freely given to me. I need to say “Thanks”.
