Spiritual condition

In talking about our spiritual condition today, I was reminded of many things I have heard, read, and seen over the years. For myself, I can only say that I really have no idea. I only know that I’m still sober and that it is dependent on my Higher Power.

I was remembering earlier today about something Rev. Sam Shoemaker, an early supporter of Bill W. and AA. He said that getting sober was like standing in a railway station on the platform. Everyone is talking and arguing, discussing this and that about alcoholism. The problem is no one is getting on board the train. He said if you want to take that trip in sobriety, you have to board the train, take a seat, and look out the window and enjoy the scenery.

Another friend of mine always says that he was told to get out of the driver’s seat and go sit in the back of the bus. Makes sense to me, especially, when talking about the spiritual life in here.

And that’s what I was thinking, when we were discussing the matter of our spiritual condition. Letting go and letting the God of our understanding run the show. Not me. I think my sobriety is the answer to the question. I have no other information, except to try to practice this program a day at a time and stay sober.

I wasn’t alone in this thought. Many today said that they can think about it, but really don’t know anything more than that.

Anyway, as we talked about this today, I had this feeling that I was in the right place at the right time. It made me grateful.
