Learning

One of the things I thought about today was just how emotions can run our lives. I felt fortunate today that I was addressed by a couple of people, who were not really aware of how much their emotions were running, and actually ruining their lives. I was grateful and hoped that our sharing would help change them.

I know from my past in this program how I was ruled by my negative emotions. I am so grateful that my old sponsor and many of those old timers in here were able to help me to change. Once again I’m talking about what they told me. And, of course, it was the Intellect over the Emotions. I over E. Helping me to begin to do what I really needed to do and avoid ever going back and drinking again because of emotions. I had seen that too many times in here and the cost of lives, as a result.

“Think with your head and not your heart.” That was what my old sponsor told me. I have never forgotten that. I had to learn to act as quickly as possible, when one of these negative emotions came up. I was told to say a prayer quickly and ask my Higher Power for help. And then to use my mind to control whatever was going on. That’s because once the emotion takes over it controls me.

Anyway, I was thinking about this today and needed to sit down and put it down on paper. It’s just another reminder of why I am here. I’m here to stay sober this day. However I do know that I can get wandering off and end up having to go back and put the I back over the E. That’s because I’m still human and not a saint. I was told that this would happen the rest of my life. But I’m here to keep on trying to grow along spiritual lines. Makes me grateful to having been given sobriety. Grateful to my Higher Power, and all of those in here, who have freely given to me. Thanks.
