Tonight I went back and renewed my education in achieving sobriety. I re-read Bill’s Story in the BB. Amazing how it works with myself and I’m sure so many others. I know I could identify with so much of his story it’s breathtaking. It’s mostly about his drinking and it’s effects on him. And then his spiritual awakening. All of this was another wake up call for me.
I realize as I read it that there are differences in the way alcohol affected him, as opposed to how it did in my life. But the bottom line it’s effects on us is universal in the sense that alcohol ruled our lives and took us down near the end of our lives. And then how the spiritual awakening turned us around and put us on the road to recovery and restoration to sanity.
Then there is the same thing within me in terms of not just growing in sobriety and a spiritual way of life, but being willing to reach out to others like ourselves, who become interested in achieving sobriety. Being willing to give what we have learned in here to them, and even support them and help them, if they so desire it. He expresses all of this and is very helpful in his thoughts and directions. I know it is always a wake up call I need from time to time. Makes me grateful.
Anyway I was helped once again to refresh my thinking and my way of living in here. Really encouraging to read how the man, who became our one of our original leaders, was able to get sober and to totally change his life. It’s definitely a great help for this alcoholic. I need to thank my Higher Power for the grace of such a wake up call I received. And of course the help and examples I have received from so many others in here, who helped me to learn and grow in here, brings me to want to express my thanks to them also. Hopefully my actions will be part of this.
