Today was a wake up call for me. I talked to another alcoholic about what we needed to do to stay sober. And he did the same. We had, we found, to be willing to spend more simple time in here and not complicated by our feeling we have the right to be in control of anything. I know I learned that back a long time ago from my old sponsor and those old timers, who were willing to help me to grow along spiritual lines and work this program.
However we both had found that our minds can be wandering off at times and pull us out of living a spiritual way of life. And both of us found we needed to concentrate on why we need to focus on leading a spiritual way of life, if we want to stay sober. And, of course, we had to remember it’s only a day at a time.
And then we have to be aware that we are human alcoholics. We’re not here as saints. So we will find our lives having to be aware that we will be living in two places at the same time. Spiritual and human. Waking each day and beginning the day by praying and hopefully offering ourselves to put this program into action the way we learned. But to be aware that there are going to be times we will unconsciously wander off in our thoughts and often caught up in emotions, which often could be negative. It’s then we need to be able to grasp the situation with our offering our Higher Power ourselves. To be able to return to the positive attitudes and willing to follow His will for us.
Anyway we were able to accept this way of life for us as the direction we needed to be in. To stay sober a day at a time. We both agreed that this is the purpose of our being here. Our need to be able to step back and be quiet and open to doing what this program needs us to do. That’s why we’re here. Neither of us in charge, but in unity with our groups, our fellow alcoholics. Not always easy, but do-able. Need to practice compassion, humility, and willingness.
We both agreed to our being in gratitude for all we have received from our Higher Power and this program. And of course all those who have helped us along the way.
