That story in the BB, Freedom From Bondage comes back to me from time to time. Why I think about it is for good reason. One is that the woman, who wrote it, not only tells of her solution to dealing with resentments, but she says something so true. She says that in AA she doesn’t always get what she wants, but she does get what she needs. And when she gets what she needs she finds out that it is what she wanted all along.
I have found that certainly true in my sober life. As I changed I found my wants diminishing. But I had so many needs, which took a lot of time to acquire. But each time I did, it was just like she said. I found over time that what I had received began to make me happy. Not always right away, but over time.
All of this came because I wanted to get sober and did. That was exactly what I needed. And, like the author said, when I got what I needed it was what I wanted all along. Talk about grateful.
