I was about to sit down and write my thoughts on caring, when I got an email from an old friend. She had received a message about an old timer, who had just passed away. If I had to guess, he was a member, who along with another member had started the Back to Basics movement in AA. Between the two of them they were responsible for carrying the message to so many people and renewing interest in the BB and it’s message and the practice of these Steps, which got so many of us sober. They revitalized this program and I know what they did and like so many am grateful for their efforts.
I think I remember meeting them, when they were going around carrying the message to so many groups all over. The group I attend still has a Back to Basics meeting weekly. I do know of other groups carrying on the message they so much wanted others like us to have.
It’s strange to me that, when I came on line to write my thoughts on our caring for others and sharing our experience strength and hope, that I received this message of a man, who did so much to continue caring for others. I know that such dedication to the principles of this program is important to me and so many I know personally. I know that many thousands of members will want to continue his work in a show of gratitude, not just to him, but to our founders and the original members of this program, who authored the BB and the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions. I owe my life and all it’s blessings to men just like him.
He was an example of how this program works. I only hope that I can learn from what he and so many others did for an alcoholic such as myself. To carry the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
His name was Charlie P. Along with Joe McQ. and a Joe McC. spent 35 years traveling around the world to get groups to renew their interest in what it is that keeps all of us sober. I need to thank those, who sent me this note. God love them.
